I had braces as a teenager but now 26, my teeth had moved back into their original position (and I wore my retainer religiously!) Treatment times
Treatment times vary and depend on your unique situation and the complexity of your case. In general, Invisalign® is slower than fixed braces but is mostly used to treat less complex situations. Average treatment times are 12 to 18 months but can be much shorter if used to resolve simpler problems. Your ® aligners are replaced about every two weeks, gradually guiding your teeth into a straighter position. You can expect to see your Invisalign®-certified orthodontist or dentist, on average, every six to eight weeks for routine adjustments and to monitor your overall progress.

Am I a candidate?
Invisalign is an effective treatment for a wide range of orthodontic issues, so there’s a good chance you are a candidate for treatment. What are clear aligners made of?
Invisalign aligners are made from a safe, strong and flexible plastic called SmartTrack. For discretion, the material is translucent.
Can I treat both top and bottom teeth?
Yes, Invisalign aligners can correct orthodontic issues on both the top and bottom teeth.
I’ve had orthodontic treatment in the past. Can I still get Invisalign?
Yes. Over time it’s common for teeth to shift back to their former position after orthodontic treatment – especially when a retainer isn’t worn. When this happens, Invisalign is a fast, discreet way of improving the smile once again.
I’m already wearing braces. Can I switch to Invisalign?
It all depends on what type of braces you wear and how far into treatment you are. If you’d like to Invisalign, it’s best to book a consultation at Harley Street Dental Studio so that our team can make an assessment.
I’ve had dental work like veneers, crowns or bridges. Can I still get Invisalign?
It’s still possible to use Invisalign if you have veneers or crowns, although bridges can make treatment ineffective. If you’ve had dental work in the past and would like to go ahead with Invisalign, it’s best to talk to the team at Harley Street Dental Studio first.
Is it painful?
Invisalign isn’t painful, although some people do experience mild discomfort during the first days of treatment. Afterwards, the sensation is like feeling a constant but gentle pressure on the teeth. This is a sign that Invisalign is working as it should.
What happens if I break my aligner?
If you break your aligner, you should contact the team at Harley Street Dental Studio right away. We can replace it with a new one or your next or previous set.
How often do I change my aligner?
Generally, you’ll need to visit the team at Harley Street Dental Studio every six weeks for a replacement aligner.
Will it affect my speech?
Some wearers experience a slight lisp for the first few days of wear. Don’t worry – this is temporary and will go away once you get used to wearing the appliance.
Will people know I’m wearing an aligner?
Invisalign is one of the most discreet aligners available. While it’s not 100% invisible, you’ll find that most people don’t notice you are wearing it.
Can I take the aligner out whenever I want to?
Yes. However, we recommend you wear your aligner for 20-22 hours every day. Most people remove theirs only for cleaning, eating and drinking.
How long does treatment take?
It all depends on the complexity of your case. Straightening with Invisalign usually takes 12-18 months.
How do I take care of my aligners?
You should clean the aligner daily with a toothbrush and toothpaste. Never use hot water to clean the appliance as this can warp the plastic.
Can I smoke while wearing Invisalign?
While it’s possible to smoke while wearing the aligner, doing so can stain the clear plastic and end up looking unsightly. We would recommend refraining from smoking during treatment.
How about chewing gum?
It’s best not to chew gum while wearing your Invisalign as it can get stuck on the retainer’s plastic and damage the appliance.
Are there any diet restrictions?
No. No foods are off-limits during treatment with Invisalign.
